Born on December 29, 1962 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

EDUCATION:

In 1981 graduated from High School in Mt Juliet, Tennessee.
In 1985 received a Bachelor’s Degree (electrical engineering) from Tennessee Technological University.
In 1994 received a Master of Science (aviation systems) from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville
In 1994 received a Master of Science (electrical engineering) from Tennessee Technological University.

FAMILY STATUS:

Married to Deanna Newport.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

In 1985 Wilmore entered into U.S. Naval Forces. During his tenure as a fleet Naval officer and pilot (16 years), Wilmore participated in 4 operational deployments, flying the A-7E and FA-18 aircraft from the decks of U.S. Naval aircraft carriers. He has flown missions in support of Operations Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Southern Watch (patrolling in South Iraq), as well as missions over Bosnia in support of U.S. and NATO interests. During Operation Desert Storm Wilmore successfully performed 21 combat missions while operating from the flight deck of the USS Kennedy.

His most recent operational deployment was aboard the USS Eisenhower with the “Blue Blasters” of Strike Fighter Squadron 34, an F/A-18 squadron based at Naval Air Station Oceana.

In 1992 he graduated from Naval Test Pilot School. Wilmore participated in all phases of the development of the Т-45 jet trainer including high angle of attack flights and deck landing tests.

Till 2000 Wilmore served as a “Flight Test” instructor at the United States Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, California. His total flight-hours are more than 5900 hr. He made 663 aircraft carrier deck landings.

On July 26, 2000 he was enlisted in NASA astronaut team within the 18-th selection by NASA as a candidate for astronauts. Having completed a course of general space training, Wilmore was qualified as a Shuttle pilot and assigned to the Astronaut Office of the Department of the ISS and Visiting Vehicles Crews.

On September 30, 2008 in NASA press release it was reported that Wilmore was assigned as a Shuttle pilot (STS-129).

He performed his first space flight on November 16-27, 2009 as the Atlantis Shuttle pilot (STS-129).
The mission duration was 10 days 19 h 21 min.

On December 15, 2011 by decision of the Interdepartmental Commission Wilmore was assigned commander of ISS-42 and a flight engineer of the Soyuz TMA crew under ISS-41/42 program.

In January 2013 he together with Aleksandr Samokutyaev and Elena Serova successfully passed training in the forest near Moscow for taking measures upon landing in the wooded/marshy locality in winter for 48 hours.

From March 4, 2014 Barry Wilmore passed training as a flight engineer of the ISS-39/40 back-up crew together with commander Aleksandr Samokutyaev and flight engineer Elena Serova.

On March 4 the examination training on the Soyuz TMA simulator occurred. On March 5 the crew passed the test training on the ISS Russian Segment.

On March 24 at the meeting of the State Commission at the Baikonur cosmodrome Barry Wilmore was approved as flight engineer-2 of the Soyuz TMA-12M MTV backup crew.

On March 26, 2014 at launch of the Soyuz TMA-12M MTV he was a backup of the vehicle crew flight engineer-2.
