Born on January 23, 1973 in Taipei, Taiwan.
EDUCATION: In 1995 graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Received a Master’s degree in physiology of cardiovascular system from the Colorado State University.
Received a Medical Doctor degree from the School of Medicine, the University of Colorado.
In 2008 received a Master’s degree in Public Health – MPH from the University of Texas Medical Branch – UTMB.
FAMILY STATUS: married to Kristiana Jones. They have three children.
HOBBY: underwater sports (swimming), astronomical observations, reading, computing and church activities.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
By the time of selection he worked as an assistant professor of the Clinical Preventive Medicine Department and the Chair of Family Medicine, the University of Texas Medical Branch – UTMB. Kjell Norwood Lindgren worked as an aviation physician, NASA under the Space Shuttle, ISS and Constellation program (in the scope of the University of Texas Medical Branch – UTMB and Wyle Integrated Science and Engineering Group joint program).
On June 29, 2009 he was enlisted in the astronaut corps, NASA, the 20th selection, NASA as an astronaut candidate. He finished a two-year course of general space training in July 2011 and got the astronaut qualification.
In June 2012 it was reported that Kjell Lindgren was assigned to the crew of the Soyuz TMA-16 vehicle (the ISS-43/44 crew). However, in autumn 2012 he was not assigned to the crew for 2014 as it was decided that he would take part in a one-year flight and was assigned to the crew of such an experienced astronaut as Scott Kelly.
In December 2012 Kjell Lindgren besides Oleg Kononenko and Kimiya Yui became a member of the prime crew of Soyuz TMA-17M (the ISS-44/45) and the backup crew of Soyuz TMA-15M (the ISS 42/43) as flight engineer-2 (the ISS flight engineer).
At a period of January 27-28, 2014 he together with Oleg Kononenko and Kimiya Yui participated in autonomous integrated trainings in actions in case of the emergency landing in the wooded – marshy locality in winter.
On October 30, 2014 Lindgren began to pass the integrated training within the backup crew together with the vehicle commander Oleg Kononenko and flight engineer Kimiya Yui. That day the examination training on the Soyuz TMA simulator occurred. On October 31 the crew passed the test training on the ISS Russian Segment simulator with an excellent mark.
On November 6, 2014 he was approved by the Interdepartmental Commission as flight engineer-2 of the backup crew of the Soyuz TMA-15M vehicle. On November 7, 2014 his assignment was approved at the meeting of the Federal Space Agency Board.
On November 22, 2014 at the meeting of the State Commission on the Baikonur cosmodrome Lindgren was approved as flight engineer-2 of the backup crew of the Soyuz TMA-15M MTV. During the vehicle launch on November 24, 2014 he was a backup of flight engineer-2.
