The Most Important Woman in the Universe
On March 6 the most important woman in the Universe Valentina Tereshkova celebrates her 80th Birthday.
Our famous Tchaika (eng. Seagull) was born on March 06 1937 in Yaroslavl region. After graduating the school she started working at the plant studying at the same time at young workers’ evening school and practiced sky jumping (performed more than 90 jumps).
After successful space flights performed by male cosmonauts Soviet specialists decided to send a lady to space. Early 1962 they started female cosmonauts’ corps admission and there were 5 ladies approved for the trainings with Valentina Tereshkova among them. On March 12, 1962, she was enlisted and started training.
That time everything related to the space program was top secret and even leaving for launchsite Valentina Tereshkova told her family that she is going to take part in sky jumping competition.
Her first and only spaceflight she performed on June 16 1963 onboard vostok-6 spacecraft launched from Baikonur. The flight lasted for almost 3 days.
We congratulate Valentina Vladimirovna on this great date and wish her space health, success and prosperity!
