On the threshold of New Year holidays much more visitors are willing to get to Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in the pursuit of new impressions. As usual we did our best to make the tour as busy and exciting as possible: our guests learned a lot about achievements of Russian space science visiting Soyuz spaceship simulators hall, Mir space station hall and Russian ISS segment hall and tried real space food.
Flights of our tourists aboard MiG-29 Fulcrum fighter jet take place all the year round since as it’s commonly known MiG-29 is an all-weather jet fighter. But except for the flights we have lots of other interesting events taking place at Sokol airbase and we’d like to share latest news with you. On November 18 at 23.20 Moscow time (02.20 local Kazakh time) Soyuz MS-03 spacecraft with crew commander Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky and flight engineers NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson and ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet (France) onboard was successfully launched to the ISS from Baikonur spaceport.
On October 30, 2016 at 06:58, descent capsule of Soyuz MS-01 delivered to the Earth crew commander Roscosmos cosmonaut Anatoly Ivanishin and flight engineers JAXA astronauts Takuya Onishi and NASA woman-astronaut Kathleen Rubins. According to our good tradition our company organized a landing tour for numerous Japanese mass media representatives.
We are always glad to welcome new friends! In October we greeted a wonderful family from Canada – a young space fan with his parents decided to dedicate first trip to Russia to space-related topic. Our guests have visited Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in Star City and Mission Control Centre in Korolyov.
We have already got used to arrange individual space trainings in Star City for our international tourists. But this time we had to accomplish a really difficult task – to elaborate a training program for more than 40 Bulgarian citizens, who were truly excited to have such an unforgettable experience. We will be glad to see them again for sure because we believe that the ties between Russia and Bulgaria stem from deep affinity and strong friendship between Russian and Bulgarian peoples!
For the first time in GCTC history a young and ambitious tourist from China, who is by the way MSU alumni passed extensive space training program. He confessed he was a real space fan and was interested in Soviet Cosmonautics since he had started to learn Russian. Well, China is rapidly exploring Space and its spaceflight program has now entered a new phase of development, that’s why Chinese citizens show a special interest for space theme.
Early September Toni Myers’ "A Beautiful Planet" will be released in Russia. The Director made an attempt to picture a portrait of Earth from space, providing a unique perspective and increased understanding of our planet showing how it is living and changing along with the humanity. On July 26, 2016, mass media representatives going to cover "A Beautiful Planet" release visited Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in Star City, a legendary place where history meets the future.
Once again we saw off international crew to space. On July 07, at 04.36, Moscow time, Roscosmos cosmonaut Anatoly Ivanishin, NASA astronaut Kathleen Rubins and JAXA astronaut Takuya Onishi went to the ISS onboard new Russian Soyuz MS-01 spacecraft. As if in accordance with Soyuz crew we had three large groups: guests from Japan, US and Russia came to support their astronauts.
The whole world celebrates Cosmonautics Day on April 12, but a few know what a significant date June 16 is for the history of space exploration. On June 16, 1963, the first woman-cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova performed her spaceflight onboard Vostok-6 spacecraft.
We rapidly expand our tourism geography and this time a couple from sunny Mexico challenged themselves passing space trainings in GCTC. Our guests took part in Egress-2 simulator training in Orlan EVA spacesuits and in Soyuz spacecraft integrated simulator training. Then they attended the briefing with Russian cosmonaut Sergey Volkov.
