DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH:

Born on April 22, 1976 in settlement Vozdvizhenka, Ussuriysk Region, Primorski Krai, Russia..

EDUCATION:

In 2001 graduated from Aerospace Faculty of Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) after S. Ordzhonikidze and was qualified as an engineer.

FAMILY STATUS:

Married.
Husband: Mark Vyacheslavovich Serov, born in 1974, RSC Energia cosmonaut.
Daughter: Elena Markovna Serova, born in 2004.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

When Serova was a student from March to December 1998 she moonlighted as a technician at NII of low temperatures at MAI.

From August 2001 she worked at RSC Energia: first as an engineer and from December 2004 – as a II-category engineer in Lead Operations Control Team (LOCT) at MCC.

On October 11, 2006 by decision of the Interdepartmental Commission she was recommended to be assigned to a post of a candidate for cosmonauts of RSC Energia detachment.

On February 26, 2007 Serova started to pass a two-year course of general space training.

On June 22-28, 2008 in Sevastopol (the Ukraine) she participated in trainings for taking measures in case of water landing of the descent module within the preliminary crew together with Oleg Novitsky and Sergey Revin.

On June 9 at the meeting of the Interdepartmental Qualification Commission (IDQC) she was qualified as a test cosmonaut and cosmonaut certificate No.207 was presented to her.

By Order of Roscosmos Head A.N. Perminov of August 10, 2009 No.118 Elena Serova was assigned to a post of a test cosmonaut of RSC Energia detachment.

On April 26, 2010 she was qualified as a cosmonaut of RSC Energia detachment.

At a period of July 15-17, 2010 in Kazakhstan within the preliminary crew together with Oleg Novitsky and Sergey Ryzhikov she took part in trainings for survival in the desert and semi-desert conditions.

In execution of Roscosmos Order to establish a single cosmonaut detachment Serova left RSC Energia. In January 2011 by Order of CTC Head she was enlisted in Gagarin CTC detachment and assigned to a post of a test cosmonaut.

On December 15, 2011 by decision of the Interdepartmental Commission Elena Serova was assigned as a flight engineer to the prime crew of ISS-41/42. On December 21, 2011 Head of Federal Space Agency Vladimir Popovkin officially reported that Serova was assigned to this crew.

In January 2013 she together with Aleksandr Samokutyaev and Barry Wilmore successfully passed training in the forest near Moscow for taking measures upon landing in the wooded/marshy locality in winter for 48 hours.

From March 4, 2014 Elena SEROVA passed training as a flight engineer of the ISS-39/40 backup crew together with commander Aleksandr Samokutyaev and flight engineer Barry Wilmore.

On March 4 the examination training on the Soyuz TMA simulator occurred. On March 5 the crew passed the test training on the ISS Russian Segment.

On March 24 at the meeting of the State Commission at the Baikonur cosmodrome she was approved as flight engineer-1 of the Soyuz TMA-12M MTV backup crew.

On March 26, 2014 at launch of the Soyuz-12M MTV Elena Serova was a backup of the vehicle crew flight engineer-1.
